RakshaBandhan...
My lovely lovely readers....
How was your Rakshabandhan?Fun filled?Received lots of gifts girls?Boyss....wallets empty?:D Good... It is just the beginning of all festivals...There will be more to come soon!
So what does raksha bandhan really mean to you?For me.. it is the protecting bond between two really close family members or souls. It is not just a festival limited for a brother and a sister. At least this year I saw on facebook what I had been practising for many years. Many households are present in India with only two sisters or two brother. If they have their cousins visiting..well and good. But even today thousands mourn over the fact that they do not have a real brother,to protect,to shout,to put restrictions or simply tie a rakhi.Relatives are still bitchy and taunt the respective mothers for not producing a silly stupid SON.
Im fumed at this.My anger knows no bounds when something like this happens. The houses where there are two boys.. rarely anyone has a complaint.But.Two girls...OMG..who is going to take care of both of them?!
MY QUESTION-why can't they take care of themselves..Do we always need a man to protect us,to give us a name,to tie a rakhi?Did anyone ever mention that rakhi was only for a man?!I don't think so.Rakhi is a bond of love and affection and most importantly assurance that a person is there for you.Forever and after and in sickness and in health. The person who ties the rakhi is thanking the person who is getting the rakhi tied as a mark of their love and for always being by their side. The person receiving the rakhi gives the other a present as a token of love indicating that they are loved and important.Rakhi is the thread to mark the bond,to celebrate the relation. There is no gender bias to it.There should not be.
We are two sisters. And really..the bond we share is amazing. She does not need a bossy brother with useless restrictions being put on her.She has me for it.I can very well protect her. From anything and everything. I'm always there for her.Whatever she needs. So every year she ties a beautiful,hand-picked rakhi on my hand. And people give me raised eyebrows because they can't handle a girl,a woman so powerful and more than enough for the protection of her sister.Single kids can tie a rakhi to their parents! Why do you need a brother for it?!Aren't your parents protecting you for ages together?
Hence go ahead and celebrate the way you want. There are no restrictions on you.Be a sister or a brother. You should just need a reason to enjoy yourself.Happiest belated Rakshabandhan! :D And make it point to change atleast one mindset next year!Sisters..go tie your sisters a rakhi..she will smile n feel so good that you have so much faith in her.Than a brother.
Sharing with you the picture of the wonderful navy blue(my favourite colour) rakhi which my sister tied on my hand.Won't take it out soon.Let more people question me.Proud to be a Brother and Sister at the same time! :))
